SAND TRAY & PLAY THERAPY

SAND TRAY & PLAY THERAPY

In working with young children, play therapy is widely considered the most appropriate method of support.  Play is natural to them, and children do not have the cognitive, or verbal development to easily talk about their concerns.  Play therapy involves making available to the child a range of symbols, toys, a sandbox and art making materials to use as they choose.  Children learn and express naturally through their play, and are also able to process difficult or traumatic experiences through play.

Play therapy allows the child the space to use materials of play with the presence of the therapist.  The therapist interacts with the child in the play, supporting the child to find a voice for their distress.
